Post Judgment Interest in Texas

The Post Judgment interest rate in Texas on contract claims is the rate specified in the contract or 18 percent.  Many courts however may limit the post judgment interest rate to around 6 percent.
The judgment is supposed to recite what the interest rate is but even if it does not, many courts have held that post judgment interest is recoverable in Texas even if it is not stated in the judgment.

Post Judgment interest is usually awarded by courts on the entire amount of the judgment, including prejudgment interest and court costs.

The purpose of post judgment interest is to compensate for a judgment creditors lost opportunity to invest the money awarded as damages at trial.
Needless to say, if you have a judgment rendered against you and you ignore it for years, the amount of the judgment will increase substantially due to the post judgment interest.

If you have a judgment that was rendered against you, please contact the law firm of Weston Legal PLLC by calling, emailing, or completing the contact form on this page.  We offer flat fees and payment plans.
